Today I went another day trip but this time to Bruges, Belgium. My bus left early this morning from Amsterdam and we had a nice, long 3 hour bus ride to Bruges. When we finally arrived, our tour guide gave us a short but sweet tour of some of the main sites in Bruges and then we were left with about 3ish hours of free time, which I found to be plenty of time.
Bruges is a very enchanting city, it is almost like a city from a Disney movie. I don’t really know how to describe it but it was beautiful and very scenic. The only thing is, our tour guide didn’t provide us with a map and I found the roads to all kind of look the same which made it a bit difficult to navigate. I was kind of scared I wouldn’t be able to find my way back to the bus!
I basically just walked around and explored the city. I had Belgian fries for lunch with a Belgian waffle for dessert which was to die for. There were millions of little chocolate shops and lace stores, I’m unsure how they even all compete with eachother because it seemed that there were 10 on each street!
Our bus returned back at a out 9pm then I met up with a friend who works at Sheridan & we went to explore The Red Light District. It was nice to have someone to do this with because I had been to scared to do it alone but once I got there it was packed with tourists that I realized I would’ve been completely fine. It was still such a bizarre scene to witness, ladies lining the windows and men going window shopping. It left me with so many questions about the industry; how did these girls get here, why don’t they have male prostitutes, who would choose to do this for a living? And my innocent little mind can’t seem to wrap my head around how enough people would participate in this business that it stays running. It is all very foreign to me. While down there we did visit the erotic museum which was quiet weird but interesting.
Now I’m off to bed as I need to wake up in the morning to check out & switch hotels!
