Personal Trainers & Lovers of Travel: Interview with Fit Two Travel

Tip and Tarah are a couple from Portland, Oregon who are both personal trainers that have a passion for travel. Tarah has lived in Portland her entire life and Tip was born in Thailand but moved to Portland when he was just three years old. The couple both work at 24 Hour Fitness and love providing people with the services that help them become healthier versions of themselves. I chatted with the pair to see how they juggle both their careers as personal trainers and their passion for travel to see how they do it.

Do you have a certain amount of vacation days per year with your job?

The way our job works, is we accrue vacation hours based on longevity of the job. However, we have some flexibility with traveling, as we can take time off without using our vacation hours. We can just move our clients around and work a lot before and after a trip.

How often do you try and travel within a year?

We try to go somewhere every couple of months, at least domestic. We try to do a bigger international trip once a year.

Do you ever feel limited to how often you can travel because of your job?

We feel very lucky to have a job that allows us to work full-time and still travel frequently. Although our job is pretty flexible, we do hate being away from our clients, and obviously try not to be away from them too often. If we didn’t love what we do so much, we’d drop everything and just travel full-time!

Do you find it hard to unplug from work while traveling?

At times it can be hard, to be away from our clients, but there isn’t a lot of “work” to be done when we are gone.

Why is it important to you to have a career but also incorporate travel into your life?

Obviously having a career is important, and we love what we do. We have the chance to impact peoples lives everyday. But we think there is a lot to see in the world, and so much to learn outside of your home state/country. Its amazing how much travel can change a person. Nothing can replace traveling and some of the experiences you go through when traveling, but its definitely nice to come home to our job and our clients.

What inspired you to start a travel blog?

We were traveling frequently already, so we thought why not just start a blog to encourage others out there to travel more. We started a blog without knowing anything about how to start a blog and we just learned as we went. Everyday with the blog was a new learning experience. But if our blog can help even a couple people, we are happy.

If you had a piece of advice for someone that is trying to maintain a career & also see the world what would it be?

Do whatever you can to explore the world. Even if you don’t have a lot of vacation days, use the weekend for some road trips, or use holidays to travel so you don’t need to take vacation days. There is a lot to see, even if its still close to home!
