The Ultimate Guide to Toronto’s Farmers’ Markets

There’s something special about exploring Toronto through its farmers’ markets. Beyond just groceries, these markets are where you’ll find so many local farmers, small-batch bakers, artisanal everything, and discover new foods and local businesses. Going to farmers’ markets, especially during the summer months when produce is extra fresh and in-season, and the sunny, warm weather sets the perfect vibe, is one of my favourite activities.

So whether you’re visiting for a weekend or a local looking to support local, this guide breaks down the best farmers’ markets by neighbourhood (not just for summer but all-season as well), plus when to go and what to expect.

Evergreen Brick Works Market (Don Valley)

One of the most iconic markets in the city, the Evergreen Brick Works Saturday Farmers’ Market is a must-visit. This isn’t just a market, but an experience. It’s massive and set in a former quarry. You’ll find Ontario produce, sustainable goods, and prepared food vendors. There is also a lovely trail and outdoor space you can explore/hike on when you visit. They also offer a shuttle bus from Broadview Station to help you get there.

When:
Saturdays, year-round, from 9am-1pm

St. Lawrence Market (Old Town)

A Toronto classic, the St. Lawrence Market has been feeding the city since 1803 and has been named one of the World’s Best Food Markets by National Geographic. It is a must-visit for locals, but also those visiting Toronto for the first time. You’ll find all sorts of prepared food vendors, produce distributors, and little shops selling everything from fresh meat, to artisanal baked goods.

When:
The main market building is open year-round Tuesday-Friday from 9am-7pm, Saturday from 7am-5pm, and Sunday 10am-5pm. The Saturday Farmers Market operates out of the north building from 5am-3pm.

Trinity Bellwoods Farmers’ Market (West End)

Set in one of Toronto’s trendiest parks, the Trinity Bellwoods Farmers’ Market is peak summer energy. It’s much smaller than the above but more curated, feeling like a traditional farmers’ market you’d find in any small town but in the west end of a big metropolitan city.

When:
Tuesdays in the summer (usually May-October) from 3pm-7pm

Withrow Park Farmers’ Market (East End / Riverdale)

Located in Withrow Park, the Withrow Park Farmers’ Market is an east-end favourite. It’s a community-focused market and super family-friendly. People love to spend the whole morning here because they have such a good mix of local farmers and food vendors, live music, etc. .

When:
Saturdays in the summer (usually June to October) from 9am-1pm

Dufferin Grove Organic Farmers’ Market (West End)

Tucked into Dufferin Grove Park, this market has a strong focus on organic and sustainable food. Everything here is organic and locally sourced. It’s perfect for those looking to shop farm-to-table.

When:
Thursdays, year-round from 3pm-7pm

Davisville Village Farmers’ Market (Midtown)

Hosted at June Rowlands Park, this midtown gem is super accessible from the subway. They have a good balance of produce, prepared food, and local vendors and can be less crowded than the downtown spots or tourist attractions like St. Lawrence Market.

When:
Tuesdays in the summer (usually May–October) from 3-7pm

Tips for Visiting Toronto Farmers’ Markets

  • Go early: For the best selection and fewer crowds, especially for markets that run on weekends, make sure to go early
  • Bring cash: Many vendors accept cards, but not all, so bring some cash with you
  • BYO bag: Tote bags or baskets are key for collecting all your goods while you shop. Not all vendors will have bags available
  • Come hungry: The prepared food stalls are half the fun of going to markets so make sure to come hungry
  • Check seasonal hours: Hours can vary for seasonal markets, especially opening and closing months which are highly dependent on the forecast
